I try to avoid politics in this space, but I can't seem to do that today... Thanks for indulging me. When you're happy, it's really hard to keep it to yourself! You want to shout out loud! You know, I really enjoyed President Obama's speech this morning. It was one of inclusion. Here's the video, "We Take Care of Our Own", by Bruce Springsteen. He was on the campaign trail with President Obama, and sang this song. Click arrow in middle of screen to begin video (if ads appear, click small "x" in lower right corner):
Wow, we'll be electing a new president next week! The race to the White House has been ugly... Some days I can't even listen to the election coverage. How about you? I wish we lived in the world that John Lennon imagined... Blue skies...
Peaceful...
Seems like a good time to watch & listen to his classic song, "Imagine". Click arrow in middle of screen to begin video (if ads appear, click small "x" in lower right corner):
Yesterday, I talked about Taylor Swift's catchy new tune: "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together". I looked around a bit more on "You Tube" and found a live web chat that she did with fans on Monday (8/13/12). I'll put it here as well. It's fun to see how genuinely excited she is about her music and her life! Taylor answers questions from people in the audience, and talks about her upcoming album, RED. The new album features 16 songs & will be released on 10/22/12. Check it out! (The "chat" session is about 24min. long. Feel free to stop anytime you wish)
This week I woke up to the funniest song playing on my radio! It absolutely put a smile on my face! The chorus was so catchy and relatable.
I can hear it now:
We are never ever ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together
Haven't you ever dated anyone who was an absolute pain? Oh my goodness! This song reminds me of some of the feelings I had when I was younger. (I can't say that I miss those days. LOL.)
I made a mental note to find out who sang the song. Unfortunately, the song was followed by commercials, so the artist wasn't mentioned. To my delight, the next day I found out it was Taylor Swift. I think she's incredibly talented.
"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was just released this week! Here is the video:
How fun is that? We've all been there, right? I'm so glad that I don't have to date anymore. LOL.
If you're a fan, you may want to check out Adele's interview & glam spread in this month's VOGUE. I really enjoyed it.
Adele won 6 Grammys last month! She won in every category she was nominated in! Isn't that amazing?
I remember first seeing Adele perform on the show, Saturday Night Live,in 2008. I was intrigued, so I bought her first album, "19". Her latest album, "21", is my favorite!
For music clips and background on her album, "21", check out my post: **RIGHT HERE**.
You know how when you hear a song on the radio, and it can take you back to a specific place & time? I know that Adele's album, "21", will forever remind me of this year. I not only have the CD, but I also like tojam old-school:
Betcha didn't know that about me. LOL. I just love that Adele offers her tunes in VINYL.
I remember hearing "21" for the first time while I was shopping in Barnes & Noble. Every song tickled my ears. The album was just so easy to listen to. It wasn't like some that have only 2 or 3 good songs, and you have to skip over the rest. Every song was a treat! (And although I already had her first album, "19", I was secretly delighted that "21" sounded even better!) Adele Adkins seems like an old soul to me... I mean have you heard "One and Only" ? This cut could be from the 50s...or 70s! "21" was nominated for 6 Grammy awards this week:
Record of the Year : "Rolling In The Deep"
Song of the Year : "Rolling In The Deep"
Album of the Year : 21
Best Pop Solo Performance : "Someone Like You"
Best Pop Vocal Album : 21
Best Short Form Music Video : "Rolling In The Deep"
If you haven't seen the video for "Someone Like You", take a look below. To start, click on the words "You Tube" in the lower right corner of the video. Once the video starts, you may watch it without the AD banner (located on the bottom of the screen) by clicking on the "x" in the upper right corner of the banner.
Adele co-wrote every song on the album with the exception of "Lovesong". That's one of The Cure's hits. Adele does a wonderful cover of "Lovesong", interpreting it in her own way. It's lovely!
Here are 2 brief interviews with Adele discussing "21". You get to hear snippets of the songs as well as what her inspiration was to write them. In the second interview, you get to hear a bit of "One and Only". I'm telling you it's old-school! To start, click on the words "You Tube" in the lower right corner of the video.
"21" has been a big part of my life this year. I think I've listened to it everywhere: in the kitchen (on my boom-box), in the car, on my computer via iTunes... I particularly remember listening to it on the long drive to see my Dad this summer... I'll never forget it...
Music has the power to uplift, soothe, and heal. Adele's"21" has definitely done that for me. God bless her for using her talent!
I’m hosting Collage Obsession this week (click here to see site).I chose Oz for our theme. “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, by L. Frank Baum, was first published in 1900.
Here’s a promotional poster from the 1900s, isn’t it charming? You can’t beat W.W. Denslow’s illustrations!
You know, I have to admit that I can relate to the “Cowardly Lion” in the story. So many times when faced with new things, I react with FEAR instead of courage. Ummm…I’m working on that. My zodiac sign is “Leo”, and guess what? I have T-H-I-C-K, brownhair that looks like a LION’S MANE in the morning. Just ask my husband. LOL!
So…while thinking about my favorite lion, I decided to try something new. I created an Artist Trading Card on Stampbord (a special surface). I usually make scrapbook pages or greeting cards, so I wasn’t used to working on a small scale. Well, ATCs are small in my opinion :). Take a peek:
(ATC size 2.5” x 3.5”)
For a closer view, you may click on this photo:
I debated whether I should have "CouRagE" in a straight line, or a crooked one. Crooked won! Since the lion & Dorothy are in a hurry, there's no time for neatness.
Details on how I created the ATC are listed at the end of this post. However, I can’t sign off without sharing one of my favorite movie/music clips. It's from “The Wiz” with Diana Ross & Michael Jackson. Of course it’s all about ***mysweet (scary?) LION pretending to brave. The lion is played by Ted Ross. He won a Tony Award for performing the role on Broadway! Take a look.(Please note: the clip ends at 2:48 and is followed by some promos.)
Hope you like that as much as I do! Thanks for stopping by!
Enjoy the 4rth of July holiday…
Thrive, God Bless & XOX
P.S. Steps/details on the Artist Trading Card: 1. Sponge & blend ink onto ATC 2. Stamp text - by Stampington & Company/J6221 Writing Set 3. Stamp decorative arrows - by Crafty Secrets/SM03 French Mail 4. Attach copper letters - by Making Memories 5. Embellish clip art with “Stickles” glitter glue 6. Adhere clip art to ATC Card
"Watermark", by Enya, is another one of my favorite songs. I have so many! And I plan to share most of them here -- one song at a time. I found this on "youtube". There are no words in this song, and it doesn't need any...Sometimes, I close my eyes when I listen to it.
When you play the video, you can make the ads go away on the bottom of the screen. Just click on the "X" once it appears. It will appear in the lower right of the screen. (This is not the "official" video for the song.)
While burning the candle at both ends, I’ve seen many a sunrise the past few days/weeks…Now, I’m just thinking about rest, relaxation and Caribbean breezes. How about you?
This is one of my favorites. Take 5 and go on a mental “vacay” with me. You won’t regret it!
Escape while looking at blue skies and listening to lush harmonies by Libera… what more can you ask for as you start your work week?
Please relax and enjoy their performance of, “Bach: Air on the G String”. It is Libera’s tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach’s classical piece, “Air on a G String.”
I love music. I think there's a tune for every mood imaginable. I often use music to help me relax when I'm feeling stressed. How about you? Do you have a favorite group or tune that you listen to at those times?
Life has been challenging lately (see previous post), and I've found myself listening to the group, Libera. The song below, "Far Away", is from their album, Angel Voices. I find the tune and their album to be incredibly beautiful, peaceful and spiritual. I hope you like it, too.
I wish you a wonderful day. Thank you for stopping by. Peace, God Bless & XOX!
I love music! This song has wonderful sentiments for this year, and the one that just passed... Enjoy!
When you play the clip, you can make the ads go away on the bottom of the screen. Just click on the "x" once it appears (located in the lower right). It's nicer that way \(^0^)/ !
